Dave Johnson

David Johnson is a grant writing and program design consultant with over ten years of experience in government and foundation grant writing and nonprofit management, with expertise in K-16 education, alternative education, and strategic planning for nonprofit organizations. His clients include local and national nonprofits, school districts, county offices of education, community colleges, and universities throughout the country. David has extensive experience writing grants for state and federal agencies, as well as cultivating and stewarding funding relationships with local, regional, and national private foundations. His proposals have won more than $100 million in competitive grant funding. Current and former funders include the U.S. and California Departments of Education, U.S. Department of Justice, National Science Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Carnegie Corporation of New York, Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, James Irvine Foundation, The Kresge Foundation, Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, Open Society Foundations, Tipping Point Community, USA Funds, and Walmart Foundation.

Prior to his work as a consultant, David served as Chief of Staff of Gateway to College National Network, a national nonprofit organization based in Portland, Oregon that builds the capacity of school districts, colleges, and states to expand education options for underserved and disconnected young people in the United States. He has also served as a Grants Officer at Portland Community College and Senior Grant Writer for a California-based consulting firm. He lives in Portland with his wife and two small children. Dave has worked with WWG since 2015.
